Here’s my pitch for New York City.

If you want to prioritize comfort, anywhere else in America is a better fit.

In New York you’ll work harder than you ever have but you’ll feel like you’re doing enough or have enough. You’ll pay an eye-watering amount of money for a cramped apartment. You’ll walk five miles and a few flights of stairs every day just to do the routine stuff of life. You’ll compete with folks who are the best in the world at what they do and you’ll be continually challenged to up your game.

If you want to prioritize comfort, anywhere else in America is a better fit.

But what that means is, New York is full of people who have chosen to prioritize something else over comfort. New York is full of people pursuing something. People who want to be challenged, who want to get better.

Whatever it is that you’re into, there’s people in New York doing that thing at a world class level. You will get better at that thing simply by being in New York.

If you’re the type of person who’s into New York, in New York, you’ll find a lot of people like you.

Every city has a story that people tell themselves to move there. In San Francisco it’s tech. Denver it’s nature. LA it’s glamour and celebrity.

One of the best arguments for leaving home at some point is to move to a place where folks have filtered themselves, so you’ll be around people who have made similar tradeoffs.

Every city is full of folks who looked at the trade offs and said, “yeah, that sounds right to me.”
